The Corps Tools

As part of our Dirty Boots Campaign, we wanted to highlight the tools of the trade here at Mile High Youth Corps.

View a slideshow of the tools used at the Corps.

You can make a difference in the lives of young adults throughout Denver and the Southern Front Range this month by participating in Colorado Gives Day by making a donation to MHYC so we can continue to provide tools for our crews to use for their essential conservation work.

Hope everyone had a tremendous Thanksgiving break and got the opportunity to eat lots of food and rest! A tradition at MHYC is to have an organization wide potluck the day before Thanksgiving and this year we had a feast! CMs and staff piled turkey, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, salad and desserts galore onto their plates and sat down for an early Turkey Day meal.

We asked CMs what they were most thankful for and here were some of their answers:
“Thankful for a job!”
“For paid vacations”
“For my Twitter Followers”
“I am thankful for my FRAMILY… my friends that have become my family”
Here were a couple of visual thanks:

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO BROUGHT A DELICIOUS TREAT TO OUR THANKSGIVING FEAST! Happy belated Thanksgiving :)

Today was Glen Guenther’s last day. He has spent the last year serving as MHYC’s Programs VISTA and boy, did he leave an impact that will not be forgotten!

To list all of his accomplishments would take pages and pages, so here are a few that were mentioned by Corpsmembers today:
- His support in the development of leadership council
- He planned 26 Service Projects for the whole organization to attend
- He developed civic engagment activites for our land conservation crews
- He revised all of our client paperwork for energy conservation to include more spanish speaking options
- He improved our lives with easier tracking spreadsheets and answered every questions asked of him about Microsoft Excel
- He helped to find more options for us to use as resources for funding

We honored our friend with a potluck lunch, where we wrote notes on stickies to let him know why we appreciated him. Here are what some of the post-its said:
- Your support as a mentor on Leadership Council has been invaluable.
- Glen, you are better than Halloween
- Thanks for sharing your chocolate chip cookies with me- and making sure I have 2 :)
- For making every day, “Make a Difference Day”
- Thanks for being a great friend
- I appreciate you silliness in community meetings, leadership council meetings and in general!
- I will miss you and our fun, silly and interesting talks in both english and spanish. Take care and best of luck to you!
We have been so lucky to have Glen and we wish him all the best in his future!!

Boo-Ya!!

The annual halloween party, appropriately named, BOO-YAH!, took place last week before the Halloween weekend. Corpsmembers and staff all dressed up for the occasion and showed everyone how scary, funny or plain ridiculous they could be for the day.

I have to say, I am sorry I missed the big event. Looks like everyone had a lot of fun participating in the activities and showing off their costume prowess.
