Mile High Youth Corps has had so much to celebrate during our 25th Anniversary year! This month we’re excited to announce that Brenda Calderon, a Corpsmember in our YouthBuild Health & Wellness program has been elected to the National Council of Young Leaders. The National Council of Young Leaders is a diverse body of young leaders from across the United States who advise policy makers and funders on issues affecting low-income youth and their communities.
Brenda was chosen by her crew to represent Mile High Youth Corps at the 2017 Conference of Young Leaders in Washington D.C. earlier this month, and then elected by her peers from across the country to the National Council.
Thanks to YouthBuild, Brenda is currently pursuing both her high school diploma and a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate, receiving high school and college credits at the same time. A busy young mother, Brenda also provides service hours in community health and wellness facilities so she can earn an AmeriCorps Education Award to help further her education after YouthBuild.
Check in next week to see Brenda’s inspiring acceptance speech!
